Aeffe S.p.A. is an Italian joint-stock company that operates internationally in the luxury fashion sector, producing ready-to-wear, footwear, leather goods, lingerie, and beachwear. Founded in 1988 - with roots in Alberta Ferretti's sole-proprietorship business begun in 1972 - Aeffe has been listed on the Milan Stock Exchange since 2007 (Borsa Italiana: AEF), where it is included in the FTSE Italia STAR and FTSE Italia Small Cap indices. The group develops collections for its proprietary brands (Alberta Ferretti, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, Moschino, Pollini) and has historically operated as exclusive licensee for major international designers. In September 2024, Aeffe sold the Moschino perfume licence to Euroitalia.
Each proprietary brand maintains a distinct creative direction: Alberta Ferretti's romantic minimalism in refined fabrics; Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini's younger, fashion-forward positioning; Moschino's graphic, pop-cultural maximalism (currently under the Jeremy Scott creative direction which Aeffe licenses); and Pollini's footwear specialism. The group's ability to simultaneously support these diverse aesthetics reflects the breadth of its production capabilities.
Aeffe's first licensed collaboration dates to 1983, when it began producing Franco Moschino's Moschino Couture line under licence. Expansion through designer licensing partnerships followed across four decades: Jean-Paul Gaultier (1994-2012, ended Spring/Summer 2013), Narciso Rodriguez (1997-2007), Cacharel (2009-2012), Emanuel Ungaro (2012-2015), Cédric Charlier (2012-2020), and Jeremy Scott (from 2015). Basso & Brooke production was taken on from 2005. The group took control of Pollini (footwear house) in late 2000 and introduced an apparel line in 2003; creative directors of the Pollini apparel line included Rifat Ozbek (2004-2007), Jonathan Saunders (2008), and Nicholas Kirkwood (from 2010); the apparel line was discontinued in 2010 while footwear continued. Aeffe acquired the remaining 28% of Pollini in 2011 for €1.2 million. Full ownership of Moschino was achieved in 2021 when Aeffe acquired the remaining 30% stake it had not previously owned. Sanpaolo IMI held a 20% stake in Aeffe from 2000 to 2006 (purchased for $44.5 million); Aeffe bought this stake back in November 2006. The group also licenses to partners for production and distribution of fragrances, children's and junior lines, watches, and eyewear.
Ready-to-wear collections across all four proprietary brands (Alberta Ferretti, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, Moschino, Pollini); footwear (Pollini is primarily a footwear brand); leather goods; lingerie; beachwear. The group also produces fragrances, children's and junior clothing lines, watches, and eyewear under licence to external partners for its proprietary brands.
Aeffe operates both directly owned retail and wholesale distribution for its brands. The licensing model operates in both directions: Aeffe has historically been a licensee (producing under licence for Gaultier, Ungaro, Scott, and others) and a licensor (granting licences to partners for fragrances, eyewear, children's lines). The Moschino fragrance licence was sold to Euroitalia in September 2024. Jeremy Scott operates as a licensed brand within Aeffe from 2015. The ending of the Cédric Charlier relationship in 2020, and the Moschino perfume sale in 2024, indicate ongoing portfolio rationalisation.
Aeffe occupies an unusual position in the Italian fashion industry as both a brand owner and a long-established production and licensing partner for significant international designer labels. The group's capacity to develop and produce collections across multiple creative directors and aesthetic directions - simultaneously running Alberta Ferretti's romantic femininity, Moschino's graphic irreverence, and Jeremy Scott's pop-cultural maximalism - demonstrates operational versatility at scale. Revenue of €351.4 million in 2019 with €12.0 million net profit reflects a mid-tier luxury group with broad creative range. The Milan Stock Exchange listing (since 2007) places Aeffe in the same publicly accountable market as larger Italian fashion conglomerates.
Aeffe's portfolio and licensing history encompasses some of the most distinctive surface pattern and graphic design identities in luxury fashion:
