Interparfums SA was founded in 1982 by Philippe Bénacin and Jean Madar. It began in the mass perfume market producing and distributing affordable eau de toilettes before shifting in the early 1990s to prestige and niche perfumery through brand licensing. The first major licensing agreement - with Burberry (1993) - established the model: partner with an international fashion or luxury brand, develop the fragrance under license, and distribute globally. By 2013, Burberry represented roughly half of Interparfums' revenue before transferring its licence to BPI (Beauté Prestige International, a Shiseido subsidiary) in April 2013. The company rebuilt its portfolio with Coach (2015), Kate Spade (2019, 11-year exclusive), Moncler (2020, to December 2026 with possible extension), and Lacoste (December 2022, 15-year agreement effective January 2024). In March 2015, Interparfums acquired Rochas - a Procter & Gamble subsidiary with both perfume and fashion history - for $108 million. In 2025, the company acquired the IP of Maison Goutal (from Amore Pacific) and launched Solférino Paris, its first proprietary high-end fragrance brand. In January 2021, the group relocated its headquarters to 10 rue de Solférino in Paris's 7th arrondissement - the former historic headquarters of the French Socialist Party. YAML parent_company "g-iii-apparel-group" is incorrect - no documented ownership relationship between Inter Parfums and G-III Apparel Group; likely a pipeline artefact from shared Karl Lagerfeld brand references; YAML preserved as found.
No in-house fashion design function. Fragrance bottle and packaging design is developed per licensing agreement, often in collaboration with the licensed brand's design team and specialist perfume bottle design studios. The Solférino Paris brand (2025) is Interparfums' first opportunity to build a proprietary visual identity from the ground up.
